Extended Care
Respite Care
A short-term respite stay is a great break for caregivers and a nice way to pamper your loved one in a secure, safe environment. Stay for a week or a month. Perfect for those requiring assistance with ADLs (activities of daily living). Respite stay guests receive the care they need based on an individual assessment.
Respite stays include skilled nurses and aids on duty 24 hours a day 7 days a week, three meals per day and snacks, personal clothing and linens laundered daily, housekeeping, dressing, bathing, toileting and grooming assistance, medication administration, screening for therapy (occupational, speech, physical therapy), complimentary Wi-Fi, cable TV and phone.
Palliative and Hospice Care
Northwood offers both palliative and hospice care. Palliative care offers support and chronic illness management when cure-oriented services are no longer an option. Palliative care offers extra support for both the short-term skilled guest and the long-term guest with emphasis on their emotional well being and comfort. Medicare and most other HMOs may cover palliative care. If an extended care guest is receiving palliative care for a terminal illness, they have the option to transfer over to a Medicare certified hospice program to receive additional services and support during their stay at Shelby. A list of hospice organizations are available for our guest to consider and will be provided upon request.
Extended stays and Long-term care
Extended and long-term care stays are available for guests that require a greater level of care than can be provided at home or at an independent or assisted living setting. This would include features such as nursing services, restorative care, assistance with ADLs and recreational activities inside and outside of Astoria. Our goal is for our guests to have quality of life within a warm and inviting environment. Focus is on assisting each guest to achieve their highest level of independence by living the life they desire.
